Goro Miyazaki explains that the inspiration for the film came from the idea of giving the stationary Howl's Moving Castle at the park a chance to move and explore.
The film follows a new employee at Ghibli Park who encounters strange building repair assignments, including a fireplace that lights itself and a faucet that sprays water despite being turned off. During his overnight shift, he discovers Kikue, a coworker who reveals herself as a witch. The film's premise is intriguing, and the use of the Valley of Witches setting adds a layer of mystery and enchantment.
